Shake off the January blues with a brilliant new talk by Harry Pearce. This is an evening just for 26 at the studios of Pentagram. Anyone who’s attended a talk by Harry knows that he’s a compelling speaker, brimming with ideas, goodwill and inspiration. Pentagram will very kindly provide free drinks to book-end the evening. Get sociable, network, catch up, compare Christmas stories, and make the most of your membership of 26. This evening is free to all 26ers, and it’s a 26 exclusive. You’ll need to book to secure your place.

The talk

Beginning at the end.

A talk that looks into the relationship between words, images and design. From childhood struggles to the eventual love of language. Through fear, loss, chance and death. As well as very personal projects, Harry will unpick the thoughts behind projects for the Old Vic Theatre, Pink Floyd, and his new book about Marcel Duchamp’s use of language.

 

About Harry

Harry Pearce is a graphic designer, artist, human rights activist and photographer. He studied at Canterbury College of Art. Before joining Pentagram as a partner in 2006, he co-founded and co-ran Lippa Pearce Design for 16 years. Pearce has worked around the world devising identities, installations, posters, packaging, books and talks for clients as diverse as the Royal Academy of Arts, Abu Dhabi cultural quarter, Berry Bros & Rudd, Phaidon Press, Pink Floyd, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lloyd’s of London, Shakespeare’s Globe, PEN International, Thames & Hudson and the UN. For Ai Weiwei, Anish Kapoor and Anthony Gormley, he created identities for their major retrospectives at the RA. His work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, London, Toronto and Naples. Since 1993 he has been an active member of the advisory board for WITNESS, a human rights charity founded by Peter Gabriel. He is also a committed member of Alliance Graphique Internationale and has spoken at design conferences across the globe including Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, USA, India, Holland and Costa Rica. Pearce is the author of two books, Typographic Conundrums (published in 2009) and Eating with the Eyes (published in 2016).
