Spotlight: Heather Atchison

Heather-AtchisonWhat’s your day job?

Creative director at Afia

What are your private passions?

Some of my semi-private passions are eating proper (Italian) pizza, having my back scratched, lingering in bed with a novel on weekend mornings and having downtime in the Carolina mountains.

What do people get wrong about you?

They think I’m Canadian, or sometimes Irish. (clue in the aforementioned passions)

What do you like best about belonging to 26?

Spending time with lovely, interesting, like-minded people. Exercising the creative part of my brain. Seeing the amazing and beautiful things that come out of our collaborations.

How would you describe what you do (in 26 words)

I help our writers, trainers and consultants do their best work – to give businesses words that make a difference, and new ways of thinking and writing.

What’s your favourite word?

Susurration

What do you want to do now you’re on the 26 board?

Whatever I can to help 26 be even more enjoyable, relevant and rewarding for its members.

What are you working on now?

Blimey, where to start? A new tone of voice for one of the world’s largest insurers, a digital tone of voice ‘hub’ for a UK mobile network, and work on values and purpose for a global IT support provider. Oh, and an executive coaching qualification for myself. Sadly, nothing ‘creative’ at the moment.

What book is on your bedside table?

I don’t have a bedside table, as my bed’s on a mezzanine. But I digress… Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson, and Keeping Mum, by our very own Dark Angels collective.

Tell us a secret.

I was once a singer in a band in Japan.
