Update on Fine Cell Work Crowdfunder

After a very successful crowdfunding campaign, the final figure couldn’t be more apt. Drum roll please…

We are delighted to report that we have raised over £26,000 (yes, honestly) for our book project with the prison rehabilitation charity Fine Cell Work. Thank you everyone!

To be precise, the total pledged and donated through the Crowdfunder site was £26,815.  This is a magnificent result and more than covers the amount needed for the book’s production costs. All surplus funds (plus over £1,300 in Gift Aid) will go towards the charity’s important work teaching expert needlework skills to men and women in British prisons – work that has made a profound difference to the lives of so many ex-offenders.

The book, Threads of Time: 25 Years of Fine Cell Work, will be a wonderful combination of words, art and design, with contributions by authors Tracy Chevalier, Esther Freud, Louis de Bernières and Isabella Tree – and a cast of nearly 40 writers from 26.

We are grateful to all the 26 contributors so far: the writers who have written, the editors who have edited, Sue Wilcox for her valiant efforts in helping us choose the right fundraising platform, Lisa Andrews for sharing her Crowdfunder expertise, Maeve O’Sullivan for her work with the media and Jamie Delves for leading 26’s social media team.

All that now remains is to complete the production work. The writing is in, and over the coming months we will be working with the visual artist and graphic designer David Caines to finalise the book, which will be published in spring 2022 to celebrate Fine Cell Work’s 25th birthday.
