Blooming! The next 26 collaboration with the Bloomsbury Festival is here

It’s that time again! As we start to look forward to our next collaboration with the Bloomsbury Festival, John Simmons updates us on how 26 will be involved over the coming months, and how you can be a part of it.

It’s spring and our fancy turns to the Bloomsbury Festival. It’s now a remarkable and long-lived partnership for 26, and one that has thrived for many years. And this year could be the best yet, on the theme “GROW”.

Can you get involved? Please do.

The festival will happen in mid-October in – where else? – Bloomsbury in central London. We’ve agreed with the festival organisers that there will be two special projects/events run by 26.

First, we’ll run a ‘mini-Wordstock’ at the Conway Hall over a Saturday afternoon in October. We aim to make this a joyful, inspiring celebration of words in the spirit of previous Wordstocks, with talks, workshops, showcases of different writers. It’s a chance for 26 to display its talent in front of a live audience, for members to meet up, to have a great time.

Second, we’ll be running a project called 26 Plants. Partnering again with our good friends at the Wildlife Trusts, we’ll be looking for 26 of our writers to each focus on a particular plant or flower. To explore, discover, celebrate the joy of nature’s plantlife. There could also be a visual aspect to the project, which will be displayed on the festival website and at an event.

As you can tell from the sketchy description, we’re still firming up on details. But it’s not too early for any of you to express interest and get your names on the list. You can help us shape the projects or just take part in whatever way suits you best. It’s a wonderful chance to join in great creative projects as:

  • Writers
  • Editors
  • Event producers/organisers
  • Visual artists
  • Writers-in-residence (during the festival).

Don’t miss out. Get in touch now if you’d like to be part of this. We’d particularly love to hear from younger, newer members who might not have been much involved before – but everyone’s welcome to get involved in some way.
