As the saying goes, ‘a picture paints a thousand words’. But, in true 26 style, this project set the challenge of responding to a print in a neat 62-word sestude. With the grand reveal just around the corner, what can we expect from 26 Prints?
It started in time-honoured 26 fashion with a randomised pairing at the Eames Fine Art Studio in late January. Surrounded by 26 numbered prints, each disguised with simple covering of black paper, one by one each writer picked a number from a rather stylish hat and found their print pairing.
Each print was revealed to an appreciative mixture of ‘ooohs’, ‘ahhhs’ and outright gasps of surprise. Stunning works by contemporary artists intermingled with names as famous as Durer, Picasso and Warhol. And so, 26 of our members became the happy borrowers of a superb limited edition print for a month of inspiration.
The loans were of course courtesy of Eames Fine Art – our collaborators on this wonderful project. 26 Prints comes to its fruition with the exhibition launch on the evening of 29 March, at the Eames Gallery, 58 Bermondsey Street, London, SE1 3UD.
It’s an open event, so if you want to see what fellow 26ers have been up to, all 26 prints will be on display with the accompanying creative responses. It promises to be a great 26 occasion. If you can’t make it on the night, all is not lost. The exhibition will run at the Eames Gallery until 16 April – spread the word to lovers of writing and art alike.
