experimental new writing strand on Instagram, 26 Flashes, has got off
to a flying start under the leadership of Becca Magnus, Ed Prichard, and Tom
Sharp. Every month, we’ll be launching a brief by an editor with a one-week
deadline for your response. The idea is to write fast, play with words and
design and get new ideas out there.
first brief by Becca Magnus saw writers respond to the invitation to ‘stay
hungry, write foolish’ by playing fast and loose with their words and design,
with three screens of the Instagram carousel as a constraint.
The brief in full:
do you bring with you?
do you leave behind?
screens. One journey.
us a beginning.
trail of words in your wake.
us by a thread of memory.
An image. A dream. A delusion.
Stay hungry. Write foolish.
writers took us from Beachy Head to Baku via Rangitoto, from simulacra to Americana
with a little everyday tarot thrown in. We’ve loved seeing the ingenuity of 26
writers take us somewhere completely new from a simple writing brief. So why
not join in and see where you can take us next?
next brief will drop in your inbox on 30th
March. There’s a limited number of spaces every month to help us keep things
agile, so please register your interest as soon as you can. If you’d like to be
involved as an editor later in the year, please drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
