I’m writing with the good news that we’ve persuaded our 26 story characters to stay with us at The Story Museum a little longer. As the ’26 Characters’ exhibition has been very favourably received and many schools have asked to return, we’ve decided to postpone the closing date from this November to next spring, so do please continue to spread the word. There’s a glowing six-page article about the exhibition in the November/December Intelligent Lifeand we were thrilled to have been shortlisted for this year’s Eleanor Farjeon Award.
Because most of our galleries are unheated we’ve moved the Owl and Pussycat, Wild Thing and Rupert Bear into cosier spaces and installed some temporary heating. Narnia, however, will be authentically chilly. Fortunately our visitors can now warm themselves in our new café, run by celebrity chef, Sophie Grigson. We hope you’ll have a chance to sample her story-themed menu next time you visit.
And finally, we have the solution to your Christmas shopping dilemmas – we are now selling 50 presentation copies of the 26 Characters book, signed by all the authors in the exhibition, to raise much-needed funds for the museum. The attached leaflet gives more details and includes an order form in case you, or someone you love, would like to own a unique collection of signatures – with some rather wonderful photographs and interviews attached, or just phone the office on 01865 790050 to place your order.
