My reading has leant towards the botanical this month. Thanks to Merlin Sheldrake’sEntangled Life, I’m now fascinated by fungi, and will talk about it to anyone who’ll listen. I could try to summarise, but the book’s subtitle does the job perfectly. It’s all about “how fungi make our worlds, change our minds and shape our futures”.
Now, I’m thoroughly enjoying Alice Vincent’sWhy Women Grow. I also highly recommend her newsletterSavourites, for regular notes on “the delicious things in life”.

A book club that I’m a part of is readingThe Devil In Silver by Victor Lavalle (a fellow Ugandan!) for our read this month and I already finished it because of how gripping a read it was. It’s an engrossing foray into the atrocious treatment that those institutionalised for mental health face, and the terrible treatment of mental healthcare workers; a commentary on how White supremacy and racism still thrive in one of the most diverse boroughs in New York City; and an edge of your seat mystery that had me questioning reality till the very end.
Another book club I’m part of that focuses exclusively on comic books, readDaytripper written, pencilled and inked by Brazilian Twins Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá; coloured by Dave Stewart and lettered by Sean Konot. It’s such a beautiful meditation on life, purpose, privilege, living under someone’s shadow, and I did not see the twist at the end of the first issue coming! Would highly recommend both reads!
