This is a fabulous novella from Colum McCann, author of the astounding Let the Great World Spin. McCann comes straight from that seemingly limitless tradition of Irish writers with a joyful, infectious facility with words. This is a miniature story of an elderly lawyer who dies outside a restaurant in mysterious circumstances. The tale is partly told through his eyes and also of the police who try and piece the events of his death together. It’s a small piece of perfection.
