- Bye from Richard!

I’ve just released Out of Winter, a little concertina booklet that collects 33 illustrated haiku I made as part of a daily walking and writing practice during the pandemic. All of the creative work was done on the spot and in the moment while out and about. My brilliant mate Michael Gough turned them into a  beautiful booklet. To quote superstar Japanese haiku powerhouse Madoka Mayuzumi, “Because haiku are short and cannot be explained, the unsaid parts between the lines reveal the most important part of yourself.” So, if you want to meet the most important part of me, this is the booklet to get. You can grab a copy here.

My first book, The Human Experience, is going to be published in the UK on 2nd February by Bloomsbury (and then US and Australia in April and May). This is in large part due to the wonderful Elen Lewis badgering me to write a book for years and not giving up until I did.

I have great news! I am very excited to release my debut mixtape Songs For Wo(Men) 2 that I have been working on for over 8 months now! This serves as a follow-up to my award-nominated debut novel-memoir “Dear Philomena,” but also stands on its own. This has been a dream of mine for over a decade, as I started rapping and making music videos with friends during my time at university, and I still can’t believe it’s finally come true! And from a Kansas based record label to boot! Full circle moment, as I received a full tuition scholarship for my undergraduate degrees at the University of Kansas!

Released via the independent Kansan record label “Hello America Stereo Cassette”

Cover art by the immensely talented Paul Bourgeois.

I’ve got work-in-progress shows coming up! My new comedy hour is called Doomscrolling, and 26-ers can come along

on 29th January at The Bill Murray in Islington

on 21st/22nd February to my VAULT Festival performances at The Glitch in Waterloo

I’ve changed the name of the show, so the webpage might say something else but it’s still the same thing!

A fond farewell

After three and a half years, I am shutting down my computer, packing my bags, and wandering out the office door into the sunset. I leave you in the very capable hands of Lauren McMenemy, who will be the new Website and Membership Manager for 26 starting on the 27th January. I’m sure you will have a lot of fun times together!

As for me, I am off to start a new adventure. An adventure that begins at the end of this sentence…
