London Library Emerging Writers – Call for applications

Applications for The London Library Emerging Writers Programme 2023/24 are now open!

The programme, now entering its fifth year, is a unique opportunity which offers writers, in all genres, one year’s free membership of The London Library. It includes writing development masterclasses, literary networking opportunities, peer support and guidance in using the Library’s resources. With its rich cultural heritage, extensive open access book collection, dedicated writing spaces and diverse community, The London Library has been an inspiration to writers, readers and thinkers for over 180 years.

The programme is open to anyone over 16 years of age who is committed to pursuing a career in writing and wants to develop their practice but has not yet had their work professionally published or produced. There is no application fee and participation on the programme is funded. Applicants will be selected anonymously by a panel of judges including poet and playwright Caroline Bird, screenwriter and playwright Moira Buffini, non-fiction writer Travis Elborough, novelist and short story writer Zoe Gilbert, novelist Ayisha Malik and literary agents at Aitken Alexander, Emma Paterson and Chris Wellbelove.

Applications close at 11am on 2 March 2023. More details, application guidelines, FAQs and the online application form can all be found here.

In June 2022, I relocated to Cadiz in South West Spain. The home of Manuel de Falla, one of Spain’s most eminent composers and playwrights.

I have come to write about this part of Spain and complete my second book, a novel set in Cadiz in the 1940s looking at the partition of families and countries, the meaning of exile and being written out of history.

Cadiz makes a great stage, the light is pure, the voice is clear and its soul is full of Duende.

In May, I’ll start the Tebere Arts Foundation Mid-Established Playwrights Residency to develop my debut musical that I’m super excited about! Looking forward to dramaturgical feedback, connecting with the other playwrights in the cohort, and workshopping my musical for a hopeful table read later this year! 🤞

My news? My book of stories is almost ready to publish! I’ve written not about Dragon’s Den business success but about the rest of us. Those of us trying to earn an honest living and on our own way, trying to make the world a better place. Copywriter Ash Ambirge has written the back blurb and likens it to Humans of New York. I’ll take that!
