Travel isn’t just about going places. It’s about the experiences you have, and the people you meet. That’s the idea at the heart of Beings – a brand new magazine about the human side of travel.
It all started roughly a year ago when my friend Gavin took a sabbatical to travel the world. Lucky Gavin. He started a blog about his experiences in each country he went to, and a common theme soon emerged: people. The seed of an idea that would become Beings was planted.
It’s been months in the making, and now we’re just days away from completing the crowdfunding for our first issue. We’ve got stories from around the world (three of them are by members of 26), beautiful photo-essays, and vibrant illustrations. And it’s all going to be packaged up in a magazine that will feel good to hold and good to read.
In an age of Brexit and travel bans, Beings is a celebration of cultural difference. But it’s also a celebration of what we have in common – what makes us tick. There’s the story of a lying hitchhiker who insists on listing his ‘top 5’ for everything (I wonder if he’s a fan of High Fidelity). There’s a piece by an Indian food-lover who finally got round to keeping a promise he made to a dear friend. And if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to attend a feast in Georgia, 26’s Olly Davy has recounted his experience in vivid detail – you can almost taste the wine.
That’s just a taster of what you can look forward to in Beings.
