It’s not on my reading pile yet but a friend of mine, David Bodanis, is launching his new book tomorrow. It’s called The Art of Fairness: The Power of Decency In A World Turned Mean and it should be exactly what we need in these current times. His last book (Einstein’s Greatest Mistake) was fabulous so I’m really looking forward to this one. Take a look at the Sunday Times review here, and buy it here.

We’ve just finished watched the second season of Succession. I can’t think of a book or film where I detest the characters so much and yet been so enthralled by the story. It shouldn’t be this way (hot and cold, night and day).
I’ve been re-reading a little book,A Revolution in Kindness, compiled and edited by Anita Roddick. It’s a collection of quotes, sayings and musings on the subject of kindness, something we’re in urgent need of right now. Here’s a random quote from Sophocles: “Kindness is the begetter of kindness. I rest my case.

I’ve just watched the first film in Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series, and I can’t recommend it enough. Not only is it gripping, and stunningly shot, but it also highlights important aspects of our history which I’m sorry to say I knew little about. Described by the BBC as “Love letters to black resilience and triumph in London’s West Indian community. Vivid stories of hard-won victories in the face of racism.”

I’ve just finished The Overstory by Richard Powers, Pulitzer Prize winner for Fiction last year. This extraordinary novel interweaves the life stories of ordinary people, drawn into environmental activism, with ancient tales of trees and their mind-boggling ability to communicate through an underground network of fungi.
