Invitation 1: Summer Diaries
We often share our members’ news and recommendations at 26 – in fact we share both almost every month. However, these sharings are always confined to fragments. A tiny glimpse (often with a hint of marketing attached!).
As July and August come and people begin to drift off for summer holidays, we would like to invite you to pick one moment with us, and share it. It could be a grand night out, a swim in the sea, or a quiet morning on the sofa, but the aim is simple:
Inhabit the moment.
Notice more.
Don’t just tell us what you did. Tell us everything. What did you do or see? Set the scene, then tell us what it felt like. What memories or thoughts did it evoke? Did it give you peace and separation away from the working week – if so how, and why?
Write between 260 and 500 words, and let us live a moment with you.
Invitation 2: Palindrome / Mirror Poems
I’ve been playing around with words over the last couple of months (inspired first by the wonderful univocal poems you all created at the start of the year). My playing led me to an interesting form – the palindromic or mirror poem.
I’m looking for poems that contain the same words, in the same order – but that work in either direction, with only the punctuation changing.
e.g.
1.
Love shown I’m waiting
and sitting. Quietly.
Seeing not, but looking.
Is she there?
2.
There she is.
Looking but not seeing.
Quietly sitting and waiting.
I’m shown love.
Have a play. See what you can come up with, and how far you can extend the reflection. Does it open up any avenues of meaning that take you by surprise?
The deadline for both these projects is the evening of Saturday 22 August. Please email your thoughts, writings, and whims to max@whiteweavearts.co.uk.
