The big summer show in London this year is the Southbank Centre’s 60th anniversary celebrations of the Festival of Britain. All 22 acres of the embankment between Waterloo and Hungerford bridges have been transformed into a cornucopia of installations, exhibitions and events. Architect Steve Smith and writer Tom Lynham have been closely involved in the planning and execution, and will host a guided ramble especially for 26 members on Wednesday 22 June.
Meet on the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden (amazing views over the Thames not seen for 26 years) from 6pm onwards for drinks at the al fresco café/bar. The walk will wander off at 7pm. Steve (Urban Narrative) will explain the extraordinary dynamic of this misunderstood chunk of London, and Tom (International Wordstorming) will talk about creating the narratives for the biggest language installation in the world. The walk will take about 45 minutes and end at the riverside Dishoom Chowpatty Bar which serves fabulous cocktails and Bombay beach food.
This event is FREE. You are welcome to bring a friend. Look for the yellow concrete staircase near the Festival Pier and climb to the top. 6pm for 7pm.
