Writer and creative writing teacher Elise Valmorbida invites you to three special writing destinations this year. All are welcome, from beginners to published writers.
1: A FINE BRITISH SUMMER WRITING THING YOU CAN DO
Elise is teaching with Aamer Hussein at Ted Hughes’ house, Lumb Bank, Yorkshire
Date: 29 May – 3 June 2017
Departures, arrivals, journeys… how do we go about telling personal and family tales? What stories emerge from migration and the contrasts between different worlds? How do we go about writing these stories? During this week, we will unpack truth, memory and imagination. We’ll explore the diverse possibilities of language, character, place and plot. And we’ll help you develop compelling narratives – fiction or non-fiction.
2: A GORGEOUS GREEK AUTUMN WRITING THING YOU CAN DO
WRITE NOW! IN SYROS
In partnership with Anne Aylor, Elise is teaching at Villa Maria, Hermopoulis, Isle of Syros, Greece
Date: 30 September – 7 October 2017
Syros is in the beautiful Cyclades group of islands. Not to be confused with Skyros. It is a secret haven of culture, indulgence, and life beyond tourism. Hermoupolis is the city of Hermes – god of literature, writing and, er, cattle rustling. This intense and yet indulgent 7-day retreat will give you the confidence to develop your writing and create new work. Villa Maria is a beautiful 19th century townhouse with marble bathrooms, antiques and newly restored interiors.
If you’re tempted by Margate(where TS Eliot wrote much of The Wasteland), Elise is running a workshop about creative writing and wellbeing with Vanessa King at The Margate Bookieliterary festival in late August. She might also do a sneak preview reading from her new novel (to be published by Faber & Faber next year).
