News and announcements from this parish, including 26 Miles in the pub, a corporate membership deal, how to update your 26 profile, and – ooh, too exciting – a date for Wordstock 2013.
26 Miles crosses the finish line
They’ve made it! The writers who took part in 26 Miles have covered every last inch of the London Marathon route, right down to the final 385 yards. Their stories will be published on the 26 Miles site from 14th March. But first, to the pub!
To celebrate the completion of the 26 Miles project, we’re heading down the pub, and members of 26 are very welcome to join us. Here are the details:
Where: The Samuel Pepys bar and restaurant (www.thesamuelpepys.co.uk) Stew Lane, off Upper Thames Street, London EC4V 3PT
When: Thursday 14th March
Time: 6.30pm onwards
The closest tube stations are Mansion House and Blackfriars. And Bank station is not too far.
We’re reserving a space in the pub, so we’d like to get an idea of numbers. If you’re able to come, please email Sarah Farley by Friday 8th March.
Want to bring all the wonder of 26 to your workplace? We’d love you to. This year we have more events and exciting projects than ever, and to encourage those who work in the business world of words, we’re offering corporate memberships. For £260 you can enrol up to 15 people from your workplace. They will all receive our monthly newsletter, be more than welcome to take part in our upcoming projects and enjoy members’ rates for events. But we’re flexible, so if you have more than 15 people, get in touch and we’ll organise a special rate, just for you. To join up or simply to enquire, please email Rachel Marshall on firstname.lastname@example.org
The next Pecha Kucha
The word on the street is there’s another 26 Pecha Kucha night in the offing for May/June time, and like the crazy fool I am I’ve put my name down for the six minute 40 seconds ordeal. I’ll be banging on about my forthcoming book called Read Me: 10 Lessons on Writing Great Copy from Laurence King Publishing in early 2014. THRILL to my concise yet detailed chapter summary! GASP as I outline a few minor hiccups between publisher and author!! SWOON as I show grainy lo-res images that might make the cut provided we can get permission!!! It’ll be a night to remember all right. Roger Horberry
Setting a date for Wordstock
It happened in 2011. It happened in 2012. And yes, it’s happening again this year. 26 Wordstock 2013 is scheduled for Saturday 9th November. Put the date in your diary now. Mark the whole day as sacred. Cancel all football, sex, shopping and/or topiary. This is way more important and way more fun. And this is the 10th year since 26 was born, so you can bet your bookmark that 26 Wordstock 2013 will be a party to remember. Hey, shall we have birthday cake?
Get your orange asterisk
Judging by the number of orange asterisks/flower-type things missing from the list of names in the members’ area of the website, many of you don’t know that you have a profile page that’s all yours. Please help your fellow members get to know you and your work by adding something to your page, such as a biography, news of what you’re working on, and photos. Once you’ve added something to your page, an orange asterisk will appear next to your name. To update your 26 profile, sign into the site, scroll down to find your name in the ‘Members’ pages’ sidebar, and click the link to edit. Ta dah.
