Journalist, copywriter, content consultant, brand adviser, storyteller and writer
A former Fleet Street news reporter I switched to feature writing via a job as senior writer at Cosmopolitan magazine. There I interviewed pop stars, persuaded men to pose nude and (infamously) went undercover on Cilla’s Blind Date. Since then I have held various senior editorial positions at magazines including 19, Woman & Home and Bauer’s innovative fortnightly launch Real, where I was deputy editor. I currently write for The Sunday Times Magazine and Style, The Times Magazine, Daily Telegraph, Guardian Weekend, Guardian Family (RIP), Daily Mail and more. I also write for women’s glossies including Psychologies, Marie Claire, Good Housekeeping and Candis. I cover a wide range of subjects from lifestyle trends, popular science, health, travel and celebrity profiles to investigative reports.
Alongside journalism I am a copywriter, brand and content consultant and editor. I’ve worked in-house with agencies such as Redwood and Publicis, and also directly with international brands and firms such as Diageo as a freelance consultant. I have extensive client-facing experience, have pitched to blue chip and boutique brands, and am as happy creating innovative content solutions as crafting compelling copy. I have experience in broadcast as a producer (at GMTV) and as a commentator and panel member (Paper reviews, Woman’s Hour, regional radio and more).
I am currently on the Faber Academy’s Advanced Writing a Novel Course, where the word count of the first draft of my first book is inching upward very slowly. I expect to finish my novel around the same time as reading words on paper for pleasure is consigned to history.
