John Sorrell founded Newell and Sorrell with Frances Newell in 1976. This grew to be one of the UK’s most admired identity companies before merging with Interbrand in 1997. John became chairman of the Design Council, remodelling it in the late 1990s into its present form. A recipient of the OBE he now runs the Sorrell Foundation, and is the originator of the London Design Festival which held its first annual festival in 2003. 26 has participated in every London Design Festival since.
