This is me, business writer and trainer, novelist and musician.
I write a weekly blog about language in business (and life) called A Few Kind Words – see the link below.
I’ve worked as a writer in the business world for thirty years. Today I help organisations and groups of all kinds to learn how stories and language can transform the way we see the world and our place in it.
I’m one of the founders of 26 in Scotland, and I run the Dark Angels programme of Creative Writing in Business courses with fellow 26-ers John Simmon and Stuart Delves. I’ve contributed to four of the 26 creative projects: 26 Letters, 26 Malts, Common Ground and Bard & Co.
I’m also a novelist. My fifth novel, THE RECKONING, was published by Young Picador in November 2008. In the past I’ve been chairman of the Society of Authors in Scotland and a member of the Scottish Arts Council’s Literature Committee. Today I’m a director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the world’s largest literary festival.
When I’m not writing I play the piano with various Scottish traditional musicians and bands.
I enjoy Glasgow humour.
