26 events range from the practical to the poetical and most things in between. We hope to give you an insight into the way people and companies use words in very different ways, and who knows, even give you a soupcon of inspiration. It's also a chance to catch up with fellow 26ers, and perhaps go for a drink or a bite afterwards.
We aim to host one event every month, and we're always happy to hear your suggestions for future talks, debates or readings. Perhaps you'd like to get your hands dirty and organise one yourself under the 26 umbrella? If you do, please get in touch with us via events@26.org.uk.

GETTING PUBLISHED

When: 31 March 2010, 6.30pm for 7pm
Where: Whitechapel Gallery, London , E1 7QX
Free for members, £5 for non-members (payable on door)

This is the sequel to a sell-out event of the same name from about three years ago. 26 is delighted to have many published authors in its midst, but it has at least as many, if not more, would-be authors. So, how to cross the threshold from would-be to published? This is a panel-style discussion, with three highly experienced experts passing on their inside knowledge, tips and advice. There will also be an open forum for further questions.

The experts are:

Peter Strauss – literary agent at the leading agency of Curtis Brown, and for many years the Editorial Director at Picador.

Jeremy Trevathan – fiction publisher at Macmillan.

Rob Williams – one of 26’s own members, and for many years at Penguin, but now independent and free to give the advice we really need to hear...

Each will speak for about ten to fifteen minutes, before the open forum.

Although we won’t have any liquid refreshment at the Whitechapel, by virtue of the gallery’s proximity to Brick Lane, we are proposing to disperse after the event to various venues in the vicinity to continue the evening’s conviviality... If the experience of last time is any guide, early booking will be essential. Reserve your place by emailing events@26.org.uk
